We're Sending Out An S.O.S Message... |
And a challenge to all DCSA players to dedicate the summer months to improving their game! At DCSA, we are offering a training series for the highly competitive soccer player that will give each player the ability to perform at the highest levels of play. Starting June 2nd, players will have the option to engage in a Functional Training Series or a Technical Training Series that will last for five weeks.
|
| What's the difference between functional and technical sessions?
Functional Training
Functional training is training associated with a specific role or position on the field. While some technical skills are worked on in our functional training, the majority of what we teach involves quick, proper decision making on the field and analyzing WHY we do particular things when we play. Our functional training sessions are primarily tactical in nature as their intent is to present various methods of performing certain tasks or overcoming common obstacles that are associated with various positions around the field. The ultimate goal is to have each player learn the options available to them and to be able to execute the most efficient, productive choice in any given situation. The Functional Series is recommended for those players who have a working knowledge of the technical skills necessary to play the game at a competitive level and are seeking to increase their decision making ability or learn the roles of various positions on the field. Older players usually engage in this type of training.
Technical Training
Technical training involves HOW we perform particular tasks (i.e. the mechanics behind shooting, receiving, passing, etc.) Technical training involves executing drills where the movement or desired action is predetermined by the trainer. While the general concept of spreading the field on offense and remaining compact on defense will be stressed alongside of off-ball movement during the scrimmages, most of the sessions will deal solely with technical proficiency in certain key areas.
