Team United 01 Girls Black defeated Tophat White 5-1, North Forsyth Fusion 3-0 , and ASA Xtreme Black 3-1, to advance to the final match in the ASA Xtreme Cup U9 Silver bracket. In a tough match against Norcorss Fury Gold, the girls fought hard, but were unable to defeat Norcross, losing 3-1 and taking second place. In all it was a strong season for this young team, who has two prior tournament championship titles to their credit, at home at last Novemeber at the Sugar and Spice Classic, and in February at the Cobb YMCA Academy Icebreaker.
The WGFC United U9 girls arrived at the Cobb YMCA Academy Icebreaker challenge with one purpose in mind-to win. And they did just that. Saturday's games were won by Team United, with scores of 2-1 and 5-1, respectively, with goals scored by Jordan Luetkemeyer, Carsyn Sauls, Kristin Beasley, Brandi "Pinki" Peterson, Aly Jordan, Aleia Gray, and Katherine Irving. By the end of Saturday's games, with a 7 point lead over the next contender in their bracket, their spot in the championship game was already secured.
The damage to Fowler is trivial when compared with the damage done to people's homes and lives all around Douglas, Paulding, and Carroll County. But for WGFC, Fowler is symbolic to all of us of just how devastating this flood was and how much damage it caused.
